A Decade of Meister-Security: From Practical Training to AI-Powered Defense

It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years. What started as a small consulting and training firm to educate employees and private users has evolved into an open platform where I share my experience with my followers. This anniversary is the perfect moment to look back at the journey, celebrate the evolution, and thank you, the community, for being a part of it.

The Early Days: Building the Foundation

When I started, the focus was squarely on hands-on, practical security training. The goal was to empower users to protect their own homes and companies. A look at the old website reveals courses centered around fundamental security components like firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). We spent our time setting up and configuring OPNsense firewalls, learning the basics of network rules, and diving into intrusion detection with tools like Suricata. The mission was simple: provide practical experience with the most critical elements of a secure infrastructure.

The Evolution: Embracing the Future of Security

While the foundational principles remain as crucial as ever, the cybersecurity landscape has changed dramatically. Today, the conversation has shifted to more advanced and automated methods of defense. My own journey reflects this, moving from basic configurations to exploring cutting-edge topics. A recent article on the blog, "AI-supported Threat Hunting with Wazuh," shows just how far we've come. We're now exploring how to use local Large Language Models (LLMs) like Llama 3 to actively hunt for threats within log data, turning a security information system into an interactive analyst you can talk to in plain language.

This shift from manual firewall rules to AI-driven analysis represents the broader evolution in the industry—and on this blog.

The Constant: A Passion for Sharing Knowledge

Through all these changes, the core motivation has remained the same. As outlined in my "About" page, this platform is driven by a deep passion for IT, especially network security, and a desire to share knowledge in an easily understandable way. My background is rooted in years of practical experience, from setting up security infrastructures for businesses to running my own homelab. The certifications in areas like network forensics, penetration testing, and incident handling were all steps on a continuous journey of learning—a journey I've been privileged to share with you.

Whether it was a basic firewall workshop a decade ago or a complex Python script for an AI analyst today, the goal has always been to make security accessible and practical.

Thank You and Looking Ahead

None of this would have been possible without you, the readers, supporters, and fellow security enthusiasts. Your questions, feedback, and engagement have been the fuel for this blog.

As we step into the next decade, my commitment is to continue learning and sharing. We'll keep exploring the frontiers of technology, from AI in security to the importance of data sovereignty, always with a practical, hands-on approach.

Thank you for being part of the last ten years. Here's to the next ten 😄
